Not everyone in this world has ADHD. However, the fact that Tim Denevi, a person with ADHD, is able to connect his story to every single person reading his book is truly remarkable. There is a reason many individuals can relate to Tim’s story and respect him for how far he has come. Unlike the obstacles that everyone faces in their life, Tim’s obstacle can’t be simply overcome and forgotten. ADHD isn’t a mental illness that can be cured once and for all. Because of this, Tim has learned to cope with his obstacle on a daily basis and eventually overcome it by accepting it with an open mind and an open heart.

Tim first illustrated the beginning of his struggle in elementary school and how it hasn’t changed much throughout his schooling process. In fact, most students with ADHD are treated differently, until recently. As more people are gradually more aware of ADHD, children with ADHD are no longer treated as aliens.

I learned from this book that everyone has his/her story. Every person in this world has their reason behind every decision, and everything happened for a reason. Because of this, we can never be too quick to judge a person. From Tim Denevi’s personal struggles, I could imagine the looks he must have gotten from his peers and teacher at a young age. At first, he was disappointed and only hoped someone could give him an answer to his abnormal behavior. Who knew he was going to adapt to his illness and publish a book on ADHD.

In addition, from Tim Denevi’s trips to the counselors and the discovery of nice teachers, I learned that overcoming an obstacle isn’t just a one-man battle. Regardless of the situation we’re in, our closed ones would be behind, supporting. Even though the status quo may not change, mentally, it helps us realize that we’re not alone and most importantly, help us become more human.
